Once in awhile we want to pamper ourselves.Often we forget to love ourselves first before loving others. For men,one of the favorite pastimes is to watch a good movie at home.Isn’t it wonderful and cozy to own an awesome home theater system, with the realistic sounds and very sharp images.
Now how about your home theater furniture?
Isn’t it time to upgrade so that your movie watching or music listening becomes a complete experience?
If at any time you are feeling a little down, read about Dr William Tan’s achievement. He will light back the fire in you.If he can do it, so can you.The reason…you will know at the end of the story.
On Nov 15th 2007, Dr William Tan, age 50 was given a special award by NVPC, a Singapore organisation for his ‘inspirational giving’.
Just look at his list of achievements:
- PhD, neuro-scientist and medical doctor.
-The past twenty years, Dr William Tan has raised about US$12 million for charity for local and foreign causes.
-In 2005, Dr William Tan completed 10 marathons over seven continents and raised US$1million to set up a professorship in paediatric oncology at the National University of Singapore.
-In April this year, he became the first person in the world to complete the Arctic Marathon on wheels. He braved extreme weather to raise funds for Global Flying Hospital, a non profit that provides medical care to those in urgent need.
- Got expelled in pre-school for fighting with his classmates.
You see, all the time, Dr Tan achieved the above while on a wheel-chair.He is paralysed from the waist down since the age of 2.
He had to fight his classmates as they bullied him just because he was disabled.
A true fighting spirit, a living example for us to follow and ponder.
So you still think you can’t do it?
Still thinking about your contrainsts?
Shame on you.
P/s: As you reading today, Dr Tan is off to Eygpt to raise funds for yet another charity.
Recently, I had just finished watching one of the episodes on “Search Of The Next PussyCat Doll”. This particular episode had me glued to the tv like never before.
The reason is because one of the members of the pussycat dolls introduced the topic for the episode to the contestants… “You can be a good dancer or you can be a good singer but if you don’t have confidence, it is nothing”.
Immediately what strikes me is the similarity of what I have been advocating to the world…do you have a full wheel of life or is it out of balance in certain areas? Just out of balance in one area of your life and it is as good as a punctured tyre.
Allow me to explain with numerous examples in daily life.
Have you seen successful men in their career but they sucks in managing their kids or spouse? That is, you can be a CEO but if you do not know how to manage personal relationships, it means nothing!
Or have you come across rich people but they die young.. Like Elvis Presley or Anna Nicole Smith. You can have financial success but if you do not know how to manage your emotions, it means nothing!
How about people who are so extremely health conscious that they miss out in enjoying delicious ‘unhealthy’ food occasionally?
And then there are people that are excellent in relationships. Very helpful..help the friends, help the society, help everybody but he forgot to help himself first and is not financially rich? Who says the rich do not contribute back to society? Look at Bill Gates and Warren Buffett. So if you are great at relationship but do not know about financials, it means nothing!
Are you getting the message?
You see, at certain stages in our life, our priorities changes. We can delay or deny but,we cannot avoid facing the challenges or the game of life.Sooner or later it comes straight into our path.
In our early teens, we may think about dating or relationship. Then in our twenties, we think about career and relationship. Then into our late forties, we start thinking about health. Or start asking what the heck am I here on Earth and begin on a spiritual search.
The bottom line?
Do you continuously learn to excel in all major areas of you life…career, health, relationship, spiritual and emotional.
And do you give equal attention or is just focusing on one or two areas?
Are you having fun learning?
Well, the earlier you learn to excel and balance all the major areas of your life, the more fun and joy you will experience.
And the more happy your are, the more people will be attracted to you.
But the most important reason…mold your personality as best as possible to the highest goodness because your children will adopt them…whether good or bad personalities.
It may appear too much to think about. So for now, just relax and enjoy a video from the PussyCat dolls…
“What Really Makes You Tick?” 10 questions you should ask to yourself: a preparation to self-improvement.
So we’re all pelted with problems. Honestly it shouldn’t even bother or even hinder us to becoming all we ought to be. Aspirations as kids should continue to live within us, even though it would be short-lived or as long as we could hold on to the dream. They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks… or can they?
1. What do I really want?
The question of the ages. So many things you want to do with your life and so little time to even go about during the day.
Find something that you are good at can help realize that small step towards improvement. Diligence is the key to know that it is worth it.
2. Should I really change?
Today’s generation has taken another level of redefining ’self’, or at least that’s what the kids are saying. Having an army of teenage nieces and nephews has taught me that there are far worse things that they could have had than acne or maybe even promiscuity. So how does that fit into your lifestyle?
If history has taught us one thing, it’s the life that we have gone through. Try to see if partying Seventies style wouldn’t appeal to the younger generation, but dancing is part of partying. Watch them applaud after showing them how to really dance than break their bones in break-dancing.
3. What’s the bright side in all of this?
With so much is happening around us there seem to be no room for even considering that light at the end of the tunnel. We can still see it as something positive without undergoing so much scrutiny. And if it’s a train at the end of the tunnel, take it for a ride and see what makes the world go round!
4. Am I comfortable with what I’m doing?
There’s always the easy way and the right way when it comes to deciding what goes with which shoes, or purse, shirt and whatnot. It doesn’t take a genius to see yourself as someone unique, or else we’ll all be equally the same in everything we do. Variety brings in very interesting and exciting questions to be experimented.
5. Have I done enough for myself?
Have you, or is there something more you want to do? Discontentment in every aspect can be dangerous in large doses, but in small amounts you’ll be able to see and do stuff you could never imagine doing.
6. Am I happy at where I am today?
It’s an unfair question so let it be an answer! You love being a good and loving mom or dad to your kids, then take it up a notch! Your kids will love you forever. The same goes with everyday life!
7. Am I appealing to the opposite sex?
So maybe I don’t have an answer to that, but that doesn’t mean I can’t try it, though. Whether you shape-up, change the way you wear your clothes or hair, or even your attitude towards people, you should always remember it will always be for your own benefit.
8. How much could I have?
I suppose in this case there is no such things on having things too much or too little, but it’s more on how badly you really need it. I’d like to have lots of money, no denying that, but the question is that how much are you willing to work for it?
9. What motivates me?
What motivates you? It’s an answer you have to find out for yourself. There are so many things that can make everyone happy, but to choose one of the may be the hardest part. It’s not like you can’t have one serving of your favorite food in a buffet and that’s it. Just try it piece by piece.
10. What Really Makes You Tick?
So? What really makes you tick? You can be just about anything you always wanted to be, but to realize that attaining something that may seem very difficult is already giving up before you even start that journey. Always remember, that self-improvement is not just about the physical or philosophical change you have to undergo, but it’s something that you really want.

Hmm, time for me to visit USA again. My last visit there was 12 years ago. Took my family on a 3-week self-drive vacation.
I was pleasantly happy to hear Dr Mel Gill giving a talk at the recent IMI2 held in Singapore Oct 12th to 14th.While most of the speakers talk about internet marketing, Dr Mel shares his wisdom on emotional mastery, a vital component in anything we do.
Dr Mel is a friend whom I have not seen for the past 3 years. He is a psychotherapist, psychologist and a famous TV/radio personality in Asia.A certified and licensed nlp master trainer, Dr Mel is also the the Founder of the Master Trainer Institute of New York and the President of the American Association of Master Trainers. He has been recognized by the Business Times and The Sentinel as the World’s #1 Asian American Motivational Speaker.Dr. Gill is now the President of the American Board of NeuroLinguistic Psychology.Dr Gill used to host a motivational talk show over radio in Singapore for 7 years. He is the author of a book “Uncommon Sense”
Here are the valuable notes that I took down….
His talk is full of witty jokes but each joke carries a powerful message.
He showed us two interesting picture. As I do not have the picture, a similar example would be to imagine the controls of a plane or the cockpit. Can you see all the dials, knobs and gauges? That, my friend, is how a women thinks and makes a decision. Hence to control a women, you need to understand on how all the dials work together.
Now imagine another picture…your home light switch. How does it look? Just a flab or button that works in up or down. That, ladies and gentlemen, is how man thinks. So ladies, see how easy it is to control a man?
Well, you can hear the laughter of the audience when they were shown the two pictures. But in real life, that is how man and woman operate. Understand the picture and you will improve your communication or relationship with the opposite sex.
One in four people in the world suffers some form of mental illness.
The mind will complete any idea with up to 80% negative input.
What the brain cannot see or understand, it deletes. He gave 3 sentences that demonstrates this. A volunteer from the audience was asked to read the statements and indeed he missed out some of the words. The words that was ‘deleted’ from his brain as he read the sentences was the letter ‘the’.
As we grow older, our knowledge increases.( Do read my earlier post ‘can you become a millionaire‘.The last paragraph resonates well with what Dr Mel is saying).
A graph was shown on the chances of man winning an argument with a lady. During dating, the success rate is 80%, during engagement, it is 50% and after marriage, it is 0%. Gee, how nice if you can visualize the graph. Very impactful.
13 traits of successful entrepreneurs were shown. To him, the most important trait is on ’self direction and unrelenting commitment to goals’.(If you are a non-believer in goals, please read another one of my earlier posts on goal setting secrets to help you achieve your goals).
For those interested in nlp, a good introductory book is “Introducting NLP” by Joseph O Connors.
He is now filming a show, The Meta Secret with Bob Proctor and Dr Michael Beckwith ( the teachers from TheSecret Movie ) and is expected to be released at the beginning of Jan 08.
He ended the talk explaining his new franchise programs. At early stages of launching worldwide.
Dr Mel is back in Singapore to open a new office with new product launches.
I had the privilege to attend his grand opening of his new office on 20 Oct.
Will be talking to one of his partners on the business aspect in the next few days and will do another posting then.
P/s: Some of us got free motivational posters which are ‘neuroactive’, like subliminal effect and a free neurophonics cd at the IMI2 seminar.
One of Anthony Robbins‘ tools is on the power of questions. It is very simple to apply, yet many people fail to realize the power.Use questions to alter your state of your mind, at any moment in time.
Well, this might have happened to you or to your friends……
Imagine yourself at the beach, with the cool breeze gently brushing your face and you can hear the soothing sounds of birds chirping and the wonderful scenery of the sea captivating your eyes.
Then at the corner of your right eyes, something caught your attention. As you turn to face it, your eyes almost popped out!
It is the most beautiful, most majestic 3-story bungalow house that you have even seen. As you continue to admire it, you cannot help but to run towards the house to get a closer view.
As you are getting nearer, you notice that actually there is a banner and it says… “For Sale”. You have always wanted to get a house by the beach and this particular house seems to the dream house that you have been searching all these years.
Then it happens…you asked yourself… “It looks expensive, I can’t afford it.” With that, you turn around, with your head and shoulder dropping, you walked away. Or should you say this… “How can I afford this beautiful house?” Comparing the two statements, which statement will drive you to take action to achieve your desire.
Using questions or quality questions, we can actually manage or turn-around a situation for the better.
“The quality of our life is a direct reflection of the quality of questions we asked ourselves”. This is one tool that you can implement immediately. It is simple yet powerful and effective.
Always ask a better quality question. One that will empower you, not disempower you. Another example, if you are thinking ” I don’t earn enough.” Try changing it to “ What has to happen so that I can double or triple my income.” Can you detect a shift in your emotions?
Whenever you catch yourself asking disempowering questions, just add the power phrase ” what has to happen….”
For the rest of the week, write down disempowering questions and convert them to empowering questions.
Bonus tip: You have to write out your thoughts with pen and paper and not just thinking out aloud in your mind.
Reason no 1: More than 60,000 thought cross our mind daily. By writing it down, our sub-conscious mind will pay more attention to it.
Reason no 2: You can have fun with the process. After re-phrasing it with empowering questions, cross out or scratch the old disempowering question or stab at it a few times. Then write the empowering question a few times. You may get instant solutions or insights as you write and you would want to take advantage of momentum to write down the new ideas immediately.
Reason no 3: You can keep a journal and then write a book or an ebook about your success journey in life.
Here are some quality questions that you can ask yourself anytime of the day to uplift you: As you think of the questions, recall them using all the five senses if possible. Take a deep breath as you start.
Ready? Let’s begin.
- What are my some of my best achievements in the past?
- What are some of the best compliments or praises did I get in the past?
- When was the last time that I had such a good laugh that tears roll down my cheeks from over-laughing?

Today, I ‘d like to share some amazing tips from secrets of the millionaire mind by T Harv Eker. If you are struggling to grow rich, he suggests that we look at the root cause. Most people tackle the symptom.
If the tip of an iceberg represents money, the trick is to look below the tip of the iceberg to obtain lots of money and being able to growing the money.
He uses simple yet magical phrases to make our mind re-think about our beliefs in money. For example, ‘rich people are bigger than their problems.Poor people are smaller than their problems.’
Which means that everybody has problems but rich people have learnt to overcome or manage their problems whereas poor people are too pre-occupied with the problems.
For 16 other tips on how wealthy people think differently from poor people, click here.
As we search for our ultimate personal growth strategy and improving our self esteem, the bottom line is this…it is all about emotional mastery. Everything we do is literally to make us feel good, feel better, feel more confident etc.
Well, we can say that one of our top priorities in life is to make money. The question then is…what will the money do for us?
Just keep asking yourself ‘what will it do for me’ until you can no longer provide the answer to the question.
Deep, deep down the answers, it is about our feelings or emotions.
For example, the money will provide me with funds to buy a new car. What will the car do for me?..It will make me feel good or it will make me feel successful.
Therefore the formula is: make money= get something to exchange= a higher level of emotion.
Here then is the mother of all questions about how you lead your life…
Are you spending more time to master your emotions or are you spending more time to make money?
Our wheel of life has the same mold. At certain stages of our life we will experience or spend more time in the following main categories…financial, health, relationship, spiritual, emotional.
But all the categories have a common base, which is the emotional element.
So let me ask the question of the century again…..how much time do you spend to master your emotion?
Here is the tip for today on managing your emotions…
There are 3 main pillars that will affect our emotion at any given time.
Alter any one of them, and you can notice a change of state. Alter two or all three at the same time and you get exponential progress.
-Words/Language that you use daily.
-Physiology or how your gestures, body movement.
-Beliefs or your filters that has been programmed into your sub-conscious mind when you were young.
It is very easy to alter your words and physiology. Beliefs require more effort and more knowledge or tools.
For today, think about words that you use frequently…are they empowering or disempowering?
For me, the word ‘problem’ has hardly been used. It has been replaced by ‘challenge’.
For language, do start to be more aware to use questions instead of statements. Excellent communication tool to use to influence people to motivate them or to impart instructions t them.
As an example…if you like to go for a tour and you are thinking ‘I cannot afford it.’ Change it to a question…’HOW can I afford it?’
What happens now? Your mind suddenly seeks for answers instead of deciding that there are no solutions.
For physiology, go to YouTube and search for your favourite model and mimic their gestures, tone etc.
By model, I do not mean those sexy ladies. I mean the role model in each category. So for finance, I’d seek Donald Trump and imitate his gestures.
See if you feel any difference in your emotion when you try to mimic someone.
Enough for today.
Practise raising your standards in mastering your words and physiology for now.
Your personal growth or self esteem or self improvement journey will never be the same again!
